Then tap on the item Activity status and move the lever from ON a OFF, to disable the option Show when you are active. to confirm the operation, press the button disable. Before confirming the operation, remember that by deactivating the Activity status, you won't even be able to see when your friends and contacts are online or when they have recently been.
In any case, having done this you will have temporarily deactivated the Facebook chat, resulting always offline for all your contacts. If you change your mind, go to the section active which you can see located on the home screen of Facebook Messenger. In this section click on the item Attiva in order to be online again and thus also see active people on Facebook.
Disable Facebook chat from computer
As for the possibility of disable Facebook chat from a computer, the first solution I want to tell you about is the one related to deactivating the Activity status through the use of an option on Facebook, explaining first of all how to carry out the procedure in question through the official website of the social network, but also how to do it through the apps for Windows 10 Facebook and Facebook Messenger.
Web browser
To carry out the deactivation procedure of the Facebook chat through its official website, connect to the social network through the use of a browser for browsing the Internet (such as Google Chrome) and log in with your login credentials .
Once this is done you should see a side section on the right side of the screen showing the list of all active contacts. In this sidebar there is the symbol of a gear: click on it and, in the drop-down menu displayed, click on the wording Turn off the activity state.
Before confirming the operation, by pressing on OK, choose if you want ddeactivate the activity status for all contacts, if you intend to deactivate it for all contacts except some or whether to do it only for some contacts.
Then select one of the listed items and, in case you want to deactivate the activity status only for some contacts or for all contacts except some, indicate in the text field that you see on the screen the name of the person to be included in the blacklist or whitelist , then confirm the operation by pressing on OK.
If, at a later time, you change your mind and want to go back online on Facebook, you can activate the social network chat by clicking on the wording Turn on active status you see in the chat sidebar.
Furthermore, another option available to you regarding the deactivation of Facebook chat concerns the possibility of deactivating calls and video calls as well. To do this, click on the a symbol again gear you see in the right sidebar of the Facebook chat, press on the item Disable calls / video calls, choose how long to keep them deactivated, by pressing on one of the items that are shown to you.
Alternatively, check the wording Until I reactivate them and then confirm the operation by pressing the button disable. You can reactivate them later by clicking on the icon again.gear and pressing on the wording Activate calls / video calls.
If to communicate with friends on Facebook you use Facebook Messenger directly from its official website, perhaps because you do not want to be distracted by the social network's Newsfeed, you will be pleased to know that you can also carry out the deactivation procedure in that case.
Then connect to Facebook Messenger via the website www.messenger.com and log in with your Facebook account data, in order to view the list of all active conversations within the social network on the screen.
Now, in the main screen displayed, press on the symbol ofgear you see in the upper left corner and then in the context menu, click on the item Settings. At the next menu displayed, move the lever from ON a OFF, in correspondence with the wording Show when you are active.
However, keep in mind that by disabling the Status of activity you will not even be shown that of others moreover, your activity status or the status that indicates your recent activity, will still be displayed, unless it has not been previously deactivated, with the procedure indicated in the chapters dedicated to Android and iOS , even from all devices where you use Messenger or Facebook.
Should you wish to reactivate the Activity status, go back to this screen of Settings and move the lever up ON, in correspondence with the wording Show when you are active. By activating this option again your name will appear in the section Active contacts which is accessible by clicking on the gear symbol at the top left and then clicking on the wording Active contacts.
Facebook app for Windows 10
To deactivate the Facebook chat from your computer you can also act through the use of the Facebook and Facebook Messenger applications for Windows 10. In the following lines I will explain how to act in both cases.
If you want to use the application Facebook for Windows 10 and you have previously downloaded it from the Microsoft Store, start it by pressing the button starts that you find in correspondence with its tab in the virtual store of Windows 10 or click on its icon, once identified thanks to the Cortana search bar.
Once started, log in with your credentials, in order to use the application. Once this is done on the main screen you will see a sidebar with the list of contacts. Then tap on the a symbol gear that you see on the screen and in the context menu, click on the item Disable chat, in order to deactivate the same.
Through the Facebook application for Windows 10 you cannot chat with the users of the social network as this is only possible with the web version of the social network or using the application Facebook Messenger for Windows 10. I therefore advise you to download the latter, if you want to carry out a further procedure that allows you to disable the Facebook chat.
That said, in the latter case you must first start the application in question downloaded from the Microsoft Store (just press on starts next to the card of the same or click on its icon, the symbol of a comic with a lightning bolt in the center, once identified via Cortana's search bar).
When the application is started, log in with your Facebook account credentials in order to see the section on the screen Home and that name People. The latter shows the list of your contacts and indicates the active people on Facebook (they are those who have the icon of a green dot in correspondence with their name).
That said, if you want to disable Facebook chat, so as to be offline, press the icon with the symbol of a gear called Settings which you can see in the bottom bar of the Facebook Messenger app.
In the next screen displayed click on the wording Availability and then move the lever from ON a OFF at the item Availability. Before confirming the operation, by pressing the button disable, I remind you that by deactivating this option your friends will not be able to see when you are online on Facebook but that you will not be able to know.
At any time you can retrace your steps and reactivate the Facebook chat by going to the section Availability, following the instructions above and moving the lever Availability da OFF a ON.
Turn off chat notifications
As an alternative to deactivating the Facebook chat, through the procedures indicated in the previous chapters, in order not to be disturbed by the messages received in the chat of the social network you can disable notifications for the latter.
In the following lines I'll explain how to do it through the Messenger app for Android and iOS and also how to act from a computer, through the Facebook chat app for Windows 10.
Android / iOS
To disable Facebook chat notifications on Android and iOS, via the application Messenger you have to start the latter, and then press on yours profile picture found in the top right corner on Android and in the top left corner on iOS.
In the context menu displayed on both devices, press now on the item Notifications e Sounds / Notifications, respectively on Android and iOS. Now, to completely disable notifications, on Android move the lever up OFF, corresponding to the item Yes, while on iOS activate the lever Do not disturb.
At this point, on both operating systems, you will be prompted until when to turn off notifications for Facebook chat. Then choose one of the items that are proposed to you, for example for 15 minutes and, moreover, using an Android smartphone or tablet, confirm the operation by pressing on the voice OK.
App Messenger per Windows 10
If you use Facebook from a computer, refer to the following procedures which allow you to disable the notifications for the Messenger chat through the app for Windows 10, as there is no possibility of this via the official website of the messaging service.
Once you have connected to the platform and logged in with your credentials, click on the button with the symbol ofgear located in the lower right corner and press on the item Notifications in the displayed menu, then move to ON the lever at the voice Do not disturb, to disable notifications, by choosing the length of time until you keep them off, for example for 15 minutes.
Block a user's messages
As an alternative to deactivation, you can block messages for a Facebook user; it is a native feature of the platform that differs from the deactivation of the chat for a single user previously mentioned. The latter, in fact, can be activated and deactivated at will from a computer, but also from a smartphone and tablet, completely prevents the blocked person from making contact via private messages.
In the following lines I will illustrate it to you, explaining how to carry out the operation from Android and iOS, through the app Messenger and how to proceed in case of using Messenger from official website.
Android / iOS
To make sure that a specific Facebook user does not contact you via chat, using the Messenger application for Android and iOS, locate the name of the person to be blocked in the list of conversations, tap the button (I) on Android or his nominative, on iOS and then, for both operating systems, in the context menu displayed, press on the item Block.
Subsequently, if you want to make sure that only the messages are blocked, press the lever Block messages sent by [person's name] on Android or on the wording Block messages, on iOS, in order to activate this possibility.
Web browser
If you are using the Messenger chat from its official website, locate the name of the user to be blocked, press on the symbol of a gear corresponding to his name displayed in the chat and in the context menu, click on the wording Block messages per due turn consecutive.
The procedure can be carried out through the application Messenger for Windows 10 it is identical to that indicated for iOS, so refer to the previous chapter in case you need it.
How to disable Facebook chat
