Push notification is a tool offered by the Les Numériques site to receive alerts on the most important news. What information do we send? How frequently ? How to subscribe and unsubscribe? Follow the leader...
If you have used a smartphone for more than a quarter of an hour, you certainly know what a push notification is. These are alerts that come from a website or an app (Android, iOS, Mac and Windows). These alerts notify you, for example, that you have received an email or a message from Facebook, Instagram, Tinder, that someone has commented on your photo, that important information has just fallen in the news, etc.
The concept of push (server push, in English) comes from the fact that it is the server (Les Numériques, Facebook, Instagram, Google, the publisher of an app...) that pushes information to the client (a smartphone, computer, tablet).

How to subscribe?
When you install an application on Android or iOs, the latter is supposed to ask you if you want to receive notifications from it; if it sends notifications. Same thing with websites (like Les Numériques), which offer you to receive notifications via a browser window (only Safari, on iOS, is not compatible with notifications).
If you are using Chrome, a small window (to the left of the address bar) should appear asking if you want to "show notifications" from www.lesnumeriques.com. To subscribe, just click on "Allow". Same story on Firefox: a window appears on the first connection and you can click on "Allow notifications".
Once accepted, Digital notifications will display in the designated area to draw your attention to important information (usually a hot topic in the news). Our policy prohibits us from sending promotional notices or advertisements. We keep up to date, and this within a range of 2 to 3 notifications per day on average.
What information do we collect?
Very little information. The service that sends the notifications only collects the information necessary for sending (internet browser used, browser language and a non-nominative identifier that serves as the address for sending). This service does not collect any personal data and does not store an IP address.
I accidentally clicked "Decline" instead of "Accept"
Did you accidentally click "Decline" or change your mind and want to receive notifications? Log on to the site then:
- On Chrome (mobile and desktop), tap or click on the padlock in front of the URL, then on "Site settings". From there you can re-authorize notifications.
- On Firefox (mobile and computer), press or click on the padlock in front of the URL, then next to the notification line click on the cross or select the box then press "Delete". At the next connection to the site, your browser will ask you again if you wish to receive notifications.
How to unsubscribe?
Conversely, if you clicked "Allow" and regret it, it's very easy to unsubscribe. Connect to the site then follow the following advice:
- On Chrome (mobile and computer), press the padlock in front of the URL, then on the "Notifications" line choose "Block". For more information, you can refer to this page on the Google site.
- On Firefox (mobile and computer), press or click on the padlock located in front of the URL, then next to the notification line, press the cross or select the box and then press "Delete". At the next connection, your browser will ask you again if you wish to receive notifications from this site. You can then refuse them.
