Disable Avast on Windows
If you want to know how to disable Avast temporarily, all you have to do is click with the right mouse button on the antivirus icon located in the notification area (next to the Windows clock) and select one of the items available in the menu check protections of avast!. You can choose to turn off virus protection for 10 minutes, 1 hours, until the restarting the PC o permanently (highly discouraged choice).
My advice is to select one of the first options, the timed ones, so that Avast will restart itself without you having to do anything. Also, if you need to open a program or file that is recognized as a threat when in fact it is not, there is no need to turn off the antivirus protection. Just add the element that generates the false positive exceptions Avast and the program will ignore it while continuing to monitor the rest of the system.
To add a file to Avast's exceptions, access the main antivirus screen (by clicking on its icon in the notification area), click on the button Menu collocato in alto a destra and seleziona la voce Settings from the menu that appears. At this point, make sure the tab is selected in the left sidebar Generali, scegli l'opzione Exclusions from the side bar of the sinistra.
Clicca, quindi, sul pulsating Search to select the file to exclude from scanning (or the folder that hosts it) and save the settings by clicking the button OK.
You can also disable Avast partially, interrupting the activity of the individual program modules. In fact, Avast includes various components that monitor the security of files on your computer, Internet browsing data, emails, P2P software, messaging services, etc. and the user can modify the individual behavior of each of them.
This means that if, for example, you only want to disable the virus check on P2P software or emails while keeping the other protections active, all you have to do is go to the tab Protection Avast (in the left sidebar), select the item Main protections I will post your OFF the lever relating to the function you want to deactivate (eg. Email protection for the module dealing with e-mail, Web protection for the module that monitors online activities and so on). Again, you can choose whether to turn off protection for 10 minutes, 1 hours, until the restarting the PC o permanently.
Later, if you have second thoughts, to reactivate the previously disabled protections, you have to switch back up ON the levers that concern them.
Finally, I remind you that clicking with the right mouse button on the Avast icon located next to the Windows clock and selecting the item Silent mode from the menu that appears you can activate Avast's silent mode, which does not disable antivirus protection but "silences" the program by preventing it from emitting sounds or displaying notifications that can annoy the daily work of the PC.
Please note: I used the free version of Avast for the tutorial, but the indications given above should be valid for all editions of the antivirus.
Disable Avast on Mac
If you use a Mac and you have installed Avast on the latter, you can disable the real-time protection of the antivirus by acting in a very simple way. All you have to do is click on the icon of Avast present in the menu bar (top right, next to the system clock), and select the item Open Avast give the menu check if you press.
In the window that appears on the screen, go to Pref Renze (in the left sidebar) and click on the button Disable related to the protections you want to disable: File protection (to disable real-time protection for open files on Mac), Email protection (to disable real-time protection related to emails) or Web protection (to disable real-time protection related to online browsing).
After clicking on the button to disable the type of protection you are interested in, type the administration password of the Mac and come on Submit. Later, if you change your mind, to reactivate Avast's protections, go back to the menu Pref Renze of the program and press the button Enable related to File protection (to re-enable real-time protection for open files on your Mac), Email protection (to re-enable real-time protection for emails) or Web protection (to reactivate the real-time protection relating to online browsing).
Please note: I used the free version of Avast for macOS for the tutorial, but the instructions contained in the post should also be valid for the paid editions of the antivirus.
Disattivare Avast your Android
Avast is also available as an Android app, where it protects devices in real time from malware designed specifically for the green robot system, phishing attacks, unwanted phone calls, and infected websites or SMS.
To disable Avast real-time protection on Android (which scans all the applications installed on the device), you have to start the application by tapping on its icon on the home screen or in the drawer (i.e. the screen with the list of all app installed on the device), then you have to press the ☰ button located at the top left and select the item Settings located at the bottom of the menu that appears on the side.
In the screen that is proposed to you, go to Protection and move up OFF the function lever Protection install app to block automatic scanning of applications. Then move up OFF also the lever relative to the function Web Protection Lite to disable protection for malicious websites. Other protections that can be deactivated are those relating to internal memory scan (which analyzes files saved locally on the device), at app with poor reputation, to SMS (to block malicious messages) and ai PUP (i.e. to potentially unwanted programs).
The deactivation of the various protections occurs instantly. However, their reactivation is also instantaneous, in case of second thoughts. To proceed, return to the menu settings of Avast Mobile Security, choose the item Protection and move up again ON the levers relating to the functions you want to enable again.
Uninstall Avast
If your intention is not to temporarily disable Avast, but to completely uninstall the antivirus from your computer, all you have to do is take five minutes of free time and put into practice the instructions you find in my tutorial on how to uninstall. Avast: by doing this, you will be able to remove the program from Windows, macOS or Android in a very simple way, even in case of problems with the standard removal tools.
In addition to the procedures to uninstall the antivirus in a standard way, in the tutorials in question, in fact, I point out some tools and some procedures that allow you to carry out a forced removal in case of problems. In short, unless there are really "desperate" situations, following my instructions you should be able to completely disable or uninstall Avast from your devices.
