New update, new error for Microsoft Windows 10. Not a month goes by without an update of the Redmond operating system being accompanied by a slew of complaints from those who installed it because something, which worked fine before the update, stops working immediately afterwards.
This time the reported problems even concern the Start menu, a true symbol of Windows operating systems, which after the update KB4524147 (leading Windows 10 to build 18362.388) on some user's PCs it literally crashes. With a lot of system error: “Critical Error: Start Menu not working“. Last month another update had instead "broken" the search for Cortana, also within the Start menu, and a second update had "broken" the printer. Again, there is no trace of the problems encountered by users within the "known problems" of this update.
The damage and the insult
The “funny” thing, if we want to take it with philosophy, of this update KB4524147 is that it was released by Microsoft both to fix a Internet Explorer severe security issue that to "fix" the error in the printing process resulting from the previous update KB4522016 of September 23. With the latest update, therefore, Microsoft solves the problem created by the previous update, but causes another one that we do not know when and how will solve.
Start menu problems after update: how to fix them
The fact that Microsoft does not mention this issue as a known issue after the update means that once again the Windows 10 update test procedure proved unsuitable. Not being aware of the problem, therefore, Microsoft has not yet announced when it will fix it. At this point the only way to solve it is to uninstall the update KB4524147, by going to "Update and security" in the settings and viewing the history of recent updates. Then you have to choose "Uninstall updates" and select the KB4524147 . If we do not use Internet Explorer, and we had not encountered the previous problem with the printer but we find it at the Start menu, we can uninstall the KB4524147 without any risk.
