Force Windows 10 update using installation files
In order to force Windows 10 update by checking the availability of the installation files necessary to be able to start the update procedure of the new operating system, the first thing you need to do is to activate the display of hidden Windows files and folders. If you don't know how to do it you can follow my guide on how to view hidden files on Windows 7 if the operating system you are using is Windows 7 while instead you can follow my guide on how to view hidden files on Windows 8 if the operating system you are using is Windows 8.1.
Once you have enabled the display of hidden files and folders of Windows double-click on the entry computer, if you are using Windows 7, or on the voice What PC, if you are using Windows 8.1. Then double-click Local disk then double click on the folder Windows, by your complaint software distribution and finally on the folder Download. Now select all the files in the displayed folder and drag them to the icon of Trash can to delete them.
Once this is done, press the button Home attached to the taskbar, type Windows update in the search field that is shown to you and then presses on the item Windows Update attached to the list of displayed results.
Now press the button again Home attached to the taskbar, type Command Prompt in the displayed search field, click with the right mouse button on the first result that is shown to you and then choose the item Run as administrator from the menu which at this point has opened. Then press on Si and wait for the Command Prompt Windows is visible on the screen.
In the Command Prompt window, type wuauclt.exe /updatenow (do not press the button Submit on the keyboard!) then bring up the Windows Update window and click the button Check the updates.
Once these steps have been carried out, if the procedure to force Windows 10 update went the right way, Windows Update will propose the download of the new operating system. To start the download procedure, just press the button To start, if you are using Windows 7, or on the button Check your PC, if you are using Windows 8.1.
Please note: The timing required to start the procedure by which to force Windows 10 update can be very variable. In the event that Windows Update does not immediately identify the availability of the update, do not despair, wait a few minutes or try to perform all the steps I have just indicated again.
Force Windows 10 update using Media Creation Tool
As an alternative to the procedure I have just indicated you can force Windows 10 update using Media Creation Tool. If you have never heard of it, know that it is a small free program from Microsoft through which you can download any version of Windows 10, install it on your PC, copy it to a key or save it as an ISO image. In short, it is a very convenient tool!
To force Windows 10 update via Media Creation Tool the first thing you need to do is to download the tool. To do this, click here to connect to the appropriate section of the Microsoft website and then press the button Download the tool now (32-bit version) or on the button Download the tool now (64-bit version) depending on the OS version you need.
When the download is complete, double-click on Media Creation Tool and choose to force Windows 10 update on your computer. Then select the item Update your PC now then click on the button NEXT located at the bottom right, wait for the complete download of all the components necessary to install the operating system and follow the appropriate wizard that is shown on the screen.
So choose whether to download the latest updates available for the new OS before installing Windows 10 on your computer, click Accept to accept the terms of use of the product and indicate whether you want to install Windows 10 while keeping personal files, apps and settings, whether to do so by keeping only personal files or whether not to keep anything and then formatting, so to speak, clean. So press on NEXT and confirm your selection by clicking on Si.
Now wait for the procedure by which to force update Windows 10 is started then choose the language and keyboard layout and then press the button Install.
Then click on Ignore in response to the request to enter the product key (you will enter it once you have completed the procedure to install Windows 10), indicate the edition of Windows 10 to be installed on the PC, accept the conditions of use of the software and choose whether to run an update to the copy of Windows already on your computer or whether to perform a custom installation.
The computer will then restart and the initial Windows 10 setup procedure will start, during which you can adjust various operating system settings. Alternatively you can click on Use quick settings to use the default settings and you can associate your Microsoft account with Windows (like on Windows 8 / 8.1).
Once you have completed the procedure by which to install Windows 10, do not forget to associate the product key in your possession with the copy of the OS. To do this, press the search field located at the bottom left of the desktop, type settings and click on the first result displayed.
In the new window that appears, click Update and security, presses on the voice Activation attached to the left side menu and select the option on the right to provide your product key and to activate your copy of Windows 10. When the procedure is completed you will see the item Windows is activated at the field Activation.
