Google translate can be used without internet connection. The application allows you to download the data of a language on your smartphone and therefore to make translations offline. This can be particularly useful in situations where you find yourself without a connection and want to obtain the translation of a sentence or text. In this tutorial we will see how to use Google Translate offline.
The use of Google Translate no problem as long as you are constantly connected to the Internet. But as a precaution, you can download the data module of a specific language for use offline in case you don't have internet, which can happen when you are traveling abroad. It is also the context in which translations are most needed.
How to Use Google Translate Offline
It will not do much good to download many languages on your smartphone. You will also eventually come up against the limit imposed by your storage memory since the modules can weigh quite heavily. If you are going on a trip, connect to a WiFi network to download the necessary language data:
- Open Google Translate on your smartphone
- Tap the three horizontal lines at the top left to access the Menu
- Press Offline Translation
- You have a list of languages displayed. Download the one(s) you deem useful by pressing the icon with an arrow
- During the first use, Google Translate offers you in principle to download the English data in addition to the Spanish which is already available by default.
Once the languages are downloaded, you will be able to translate text easily and offline. Remember to come back to the same page for regular updates to benefit from Google's improvements in translation quality. And finally, in case you no longer need a language and want to clean up to free up storage space, you can go back and tap the trash can icon next to the downloaded modules to delete them.
